
Jeff Nelson - Keyboards
Dr. Nelson, the guy that hides himself behind the double-deck of keyboards, was born and raised in Storm Lake, Iowa. He has been a musician for 25 years. Jeff is not only known for his keyboard skills, but also plays drums and guitar. In fact, Jeff was originally the drummer for One Nite Stand before switching to keyboards. His musical inspiration is William Kennedy and the Yellowjackets.
Carl Morton - Bass
Carl Morton, aka “Freakybass” and “Mocha man” was born in Brooklyn NY and grew up in El Paso, Texas. First introduced to music by a longtime friend Cedric W. and became a fan of old school funk from then on. A self-taught player, performed as a professional trombone/lead trumpet in the US Air Force Band Program. After a short 1½ years in the USAF, decided to teach himself the bass and has performed on bass since 1986. During his military career, Carl has performed for several U. S. Presidents and numerous foreign dignitaries as well as noted performances with Quincy Jones, Arturo Sandoval, Pamela “The Saxtress” Williams, and others. His main influences are Bill Watrous, Maynard Ferguson, Marcus Miller, Alain Caron, Brian Bromberg, Peter Muller and all Realbook jazz grooves.
Tommy D - Saxophone
Originally hailing from Covington, Kentucky, Thomas "Tommy D" Doggett (The Professor) established himself throughout Cincinnati, Ohio as a performer with Lo-Fi (2006 Cincinnati Entertainment Award nominee “Best Funk), The 4Track All-Stars (2005 CEA: Best Hip-Hop) and Two Turntables and a Saxophone: "One of the Top bands to see at Midpoint Music Festival in 2004." As a composer he received a 2006 & 2007 ASCAPlus Award. Tommy’s influences include Miles Davis, Prince, Greg Banaszak, Maceo Parker, Vernon Reid and DJ Logic. Ben Williams - Drums
Ben “Milk Chocolate” Williams was born in Leavenworth, Kansas and grew up in Waterloo, Iowa. Ben's love for the drums came early in childhood. He got his start banging on pots and pans and that led into playing in church. Throughout his school years, Ben stopped playing drums instead opting for the baritone horn. In 1999, the drum itch returned and Ben got involved in playing in a few Des Moines area bands that ranged from acoustic rock to blues. Ben's influences include Stanton Moore, Tony Royster Jr, John Blackwell, KISS, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Dennis Chambers.
Scott Willsey - Guitars
Scott "Caveman" Willsey was born and raised in Kansas City, Kansas. Scott got his start playing bass guitar some 25 years ago, then later taught himself how to play lead guitar. He had visions of a rock-n-roll career, until a chance meeting with a guitarist in high school turned him on to jazz. Scott lists his influences as Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen and Mike Stern. One Nite Stand has been called one of the best Smooth Jazz/R&B groups in the Des Moines area. The band’s current line-up includes: Jeff Nelson, Carl Morton, Tommy Doggett, Ben Williams and Scott Willsey.
Pulling from a wide repertoire of music including Happy People by Kenny Garrett, Ladies Night by Kool and the Gang, Mustang Sally by Wilson Pickett, I Feel Good by James Brown, Brick House by The Commodores, Supersition by Stevie Wonder and Billie Jean by Michael Jackson to mention a few, One Nite Stand has been called smooth, hip and funky. They are on a mission to prove that their smooth style and infectious grooves will make them the talk of the greater Des Moines music scene and beyond.
